Why I started making positive message art works using colourful strips of fabric.
Honestly, this was mostly about Lara, finding the positive in a very difficult journey and using all the gorgeous colourful fabric I could find to express myself. The positive messages were just as much for my benefit as for her. We both needed something positive to cling onto. I used to write or print positive affirmations and notes and leave them on Lara’s pillow and she would blu-tac them to her wall.
I still love creating these wee pictures full of colour. Many crafters still give me their offcuts of fabric so I can upcycle them into art. I love hand stamping the messages and adding them to the picture and it is an art form in itself layering the colours together.
The larger pictures are often made via commission with bold empowering “She is…” statements to give to daughters and friends.
